Question: Selling stocks during the day?

so if during the day i sell my stocks when its the highest ie. noon for example or whatever time before the market closes, would i NOT get the high price or would it just sell at whatever the market closes at?
i usually sell through etrade because thats who my job set it up with.

Answer:

Every second of the day the price of a share fluctuates. This why it's called a market. Some people are looking to buy (at the best price possible) others are looking to sell (at the best price possible). When they agree.... a trade happens. The last trade at the end of the day is exactly that. It's simply the last trade that happens before the market closes. What price a stock is Selling at (like 12:00 Noon), is simply a reflection of the last agreed price and has nothing to do with what price the stock opened at or what price it closes at.

This is as basic as it gets. You need to know the basics before you put your money at risk. Read some books. Understand what you're doing.

When you sell your stock, you get an execution price. It's the price that you and the buyer agreed to. If you happen to sell your stock at the highest point in the day, you were the highest price. If you sell you stock at noon, the closing price is irrelevant to you.
