Question: Do you really think the dow can quadruple in 24 years?

A regular contributor here said that stocks, in general, gain an average of 6% a year. So this means that in 24 years the DOW will quadruple. Sounds kinda hard to believe. What do you think?

Answer:

That's not likely but your portfolio could with some good management.

The Dow has more than quadrupled from 1987 to 2000, which was only 13 years. And this kind of thing makes it easy to believe that the Dow can quadruple in 24 years.

But high oil prices and debt problems in developed countries might make it hard to quadruple the Dow again. Although monetary inflation can easily quadruple the Dow without any economic growth.
